My feelings for Boston

I can’t stop reading the articles and looking at the pictures of the horrific act that happened during the Boston Marathon. As I runner I feel like I took it a little more personally. I mean, the fact that it happened at all, regardless of what event it took place at is disgusting. But knowing how hard these people have trained, and how hard they have worked to be there, and how proud the spectators were…. they all came together for the same reason… united. And to me that makes it even more disgusting that someone or a group tarnished that.

‘If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon’
-Washington Post

Running changed my life… it brought me a sense of peace that I think only a runner understands.

Last year my sister was in that very spot watching her boyfriend cross that finish line. Immediately I thought about that, that it could have been her. I don’t pray… but for this I am praying.

Please don’t let this be what our world has come to. Please. There is so much good in our world. We can’t forget that.

What have I agreed to?

This weekend included some much needed rest and catching up with James as we have both had so much going on that we haven’t been able to spend a lot of time together. Friday night we got all dressed up for an event that James spent a lot of time planning for the 2013 Holstein Convention. It was beautiful and was held in Niagara Falls. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of us all dressed up.

Saturday I had an amazing workout. It was a partner workout which are my favourite kind of workouts, and it was three seperate WOD’s that really kicked my butt. AMAZING. Then I treated myself and got my nails done.

James and I decided to just stay in and enjoy a quiet night on Saturday. Sunday we went for breakfast with friends and it was delicious. Then we took C for a nice walk along with the farm dog Tucker. It was a great afternoon and felt great to be outside.

Tonight we start our “partner games” at the gym. Basically there are 4 workouts throughout the week that we do with a partner and its a friendly competition. It’s the first time I have particpated and am really looking forward to it.

So in other more terrifying news… I did something today I swore I wouldn’t do. I registered for Tough Mudder!!! A couple of awesome girls from my gym family are going so I finally caved and agreed to join them. It’s on May 12th and I am really not sure how it is going to go. I hope I don’t kill my knees too much. It will be a good time with some really great gals… wish me luck.

A rainy week and a new PR!

Well this week has been so rainy and gloomy and depressing outside!  I hate this weather, it gives me a migraine.  I have literally had a headache for 4 days now.  It seems to be getting a little better today but it has not been a fun week.

Things have been really hectic for me at work and James has had a crazy two weeks too so we haven’t been able to spend much time together which is also very gloomy for me.  He did pick us up from the train station when we returned from Ottawa so that was really nice to see him.  The three of us were together again.

Here is a picture of the three of us that I really love…

three of us

This week I am so busy I can only go to crossfit twice (maybe three if I am lucky) and I hate it. I miss it. It makes me feel so much better when I am stressed or anxious. Yesterday was a much needed workout and it was so awesome because I got a PR!!! I worked on my push press with one of my favourite gym family members, Barb. And with her encouragement I push pressed 95 lbs!!! I am so close to 100!!!

I can’t wait for this to be true…

Well I must leave here… hopefully there is more excellent PR news in my near future!

Ottawa highlights … so far

Today has been an amazing day already and it’s only 2:30!! Let me recap all the fun things we have done since I got here yesterday. We got in around 4:30 and soon after went over to the pub for dinner. Mel and I shared pulled pork poutine. It was amazing. Then we went to Menchi’s for dessert and it was my first time visiting a Menchi’s. I got the “tart” flavoured yogurt with nerds and gummy candies on it.

Then we took C to the pool in Mel’s building. Mel and went down to shop at the store she works at and i got some great deals. Then we relaxed for the rest of the evening. It was an early night for us actually.

This morning we went out for breakfast as I mentioned in my last post. It was so delicious!!

Then we spent a few hours seeing the sights and checking out some little shops.

We ended our trip with a must have when in Ottawa – Beaver Tails!!

Tonight we are visiting friends and them sadly we have to head home tomorrow morning. But I will be happy to be home and see James! I haven’t seen him much over the last week so I can’t wait to see him!

Ottawa Adventure

This weekend is very exciting. C and I embarked on an adventure and visited the big city of Ottawa!

We took the train which is a first for both of us (other than the GO train) and after a long over 6 hour trip we made it to Ottawa where my best girl Mel was waiting to pick us up.

Here is a picture of Charlotte on the train talking to her Nanny over FaceTime.

Last night we went to a local pub for dinner and are heading out to one of the restaurants from the show “you gotta eat here” where they serve poutine with breakfast!!

We are going to check out buildings today as c is really interested in architecture and seeing the parliament building.

I will be back later with more highlights.

Looooooong day

Today was a long day and I was tired all day long from the moment I got out of bed. I guess it’s the result of the late night I had at the Blue Jays game last night. Totally worth it

I had one of those days where nothing went as I wanted and I felt really emotional. I let my emotions get the best of me and I was feeling very frustrated and fragile when I got to the gym. One of those moods where of someone even looked at me wrong I would have burst into tears.

So I got the gym late and the warm up was already in progress. So I stretched ( much too briefly) and them joined in. We were working on our cleans. This lift I am really starting to get. But right now the squat part is not the best for my knee. But I was doing great and even got a new PR of 90lbs! Pretty awesome. It did wonders for my mood and my frustrations. I love how lifting something heavy does that for me. Then we had a great workout with lots more lifting and it kicked my butt. In such a good way.

I will leave with this clip I found online that I can totally relate with and think is so funny.

Let’s Go Blue Jays!!!

Today is an important day- it’s the Blue Jays home opener!!! James and I watch a lot of baseball together, my favourite thing about going to the games is the people watching. I have a fairly short attention span and there is so much to look at when at the games! Opening night is one of the few nights that the Blue Jays games sell out and it’s not easy to get tickets but I was lucky enough to be invited to watch the game in a box seat!!! And even better Laura was invited too!

Here is a picture of the two of at a game last year….

I can’t wait! It’s going to be a great night.
