I Did Burpees on Purpose

As I have mentioned I have been feeling extremely lazy the last week.  I know it’s normal.  People handle grief in different ways.  Apparently I handle it by shutting down and becoming a permanent fixture on my couch and a stranger to my kitchen.  I also don’t think I am very fun to be around.  But it’s part of life and you do what you can.

I didn’t make it to my regular Wednesday CrossFit class so I felt like I really needed to get a workout in.  I decided I was going to do my own at home wod last night.  I decided this and then proceeded to do nothing about it.  Finally I decided I would throw on my purple pants and get on with it.  And that worked.  I had the outfit so why not get to it?! Here’s what I threw together.

That’s right folks.  I chose to do burpees in my own created workout.  I was so glad I did because it was a great workout and it was really quick.  I actually got through the burpees quite easily.  Even the first 21 in a row.  I did them unbroken!  I used 8lb dumbbells because that’s what I have.  I would have used heavier if I had them.

I then decided I would do 100 Russian twists with a dumbbell and then I finished with a Tabata of wall sits.  Not bad at all.  The workout actually put me in an amazing mood and inspired me to stay off the couch and cook a meal!!!  J came home and found me hard at work in the kitchen and I don’t think he was disappointed to see that.

I made a really random dinner that turned out to be really delicious.  We had thin pork chops that I marinated in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and garlic.  I cut those up and sautéed them in a pan with mini peppers, garlic and cherry tomatoes.  Instead of my usual olive oil to cook in I used coconut oil.  (I’m really loving the coconut oil and mini peppers right now).  At the end when it was almost done I added some bocconcini cheese which I must say was a really good call because it made it delicious!

Both J and I really liked it.  It was just thrown together but turned out so good.  I also found it made a delicious breakfast for me this morning.  Double win!

I am loving the fact that it’s Friday and the weekend is just about here for me.  I am hoping to keep this motivation going all weekend and be productive but still enjoy myself.

Honestly, I am starting to like them.  I think all the time off from them when I was injured actually made me appreciate them!

I Need to Cook a Meal

I really was doing pretty awesome with my bikini prep eating but I have fallen off the wagon kind of hard over the last couple of days. I’ve been stressed and it’s made me unmotivated to meal prep or cook. I need to stop and actually cook a meal again.

Monday meant CrossFit. We started with a SWOD of 7 x 3 back squats. I worked up to 115 lbs. I was happy with that.

I got 5 rounds in. Not too shabby. Monday I was lazy and just laid on the couch and watched the Bachelor.

This morning I got up and did a quick wod before work. I did 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 air squats and push ups. I wanted to get some kind of a workout in since tonight I knew I wouldn’t be able to.

C had singing and I enjoyed some me time with a Starbucks and a phone call to my bestie L.

When we got home J took C tobogganing and they had a blast. We are in the midst of a polar vortex and a deep freeze that feels like minus a billion so I avoid outdoor activities at all costs.

I’m hoping to do another morning workout tomorrow. Let’s hope the sleep gods are kind to me and I have a good sleep tonight. My track record lately hasn’t been great.

A Dream Come True

Thursday night we got to do something amazing.  We made C’s dreams come true.  We have been going through some tough times, especially C and this was just what we needed for a little spirit lifting.  For Christmas J and I got her tickets to see her favourite singer- Keith Urban!!!  She has loved him ever since she first saw him on American Idol.  She listens to his music every night before bed and we are thoroughly enjoying this season of American Idol.  The judges this year have such great chemistry together.  Harry Connick Jr especially cracks me up.

Anyway, the concert was in London (Ontario) so we headed there and met up with some friends there and we all had dinner together.  Then our friends dropped us at the show.  It was SUCH a good show.  He is so funny and had the crowd going!  J and I aren’t big fans but we definitely had a great time.

The best part was seeing how much fun C was having.  She was singing and clapping along to every single song.  She knew almost every single word.  It was a late night and she sure was tired on the way home but it was definitely worth it.  It didn’t hurt that it was a PA Day the next day.  I got choked up a couple times just seeing how happy she was.  I don’t think that’s a night she or I will forget in a long time.

Christine and More Freaking Snow

Things have been nuts for me. I think after this weekend we will finally feel a sense of calm and closure and we can move on. I think the future holds some pretty great things and that’s what I’m going to focus on.

I had the day off yesterday and me and C went out for breakfast with my friend K and her boys. It looked like this.

Clearly I didn’t go for the healthy option. Whatever. YOLO. (Did I just say that?)  After breakfast we did some errands and then I went to CrossFit and C went to hang at K’s house.

I honestly don’t know what weight I did. I has 25lbs on each side but I don’t know what the bar weighs. The trap bar is really cool. It’s like a dead lift but it takes some pressure off the back.

I used 95 lbs for the deadlift. It’s was killer. It took me 16:20. Not too shabby.

My poor girl was sick last night. She was throwing up so none of us got much sleep. I think tonight will need to be an early night.

Oh and today we woke up to more snow. Unfortunately we had somewhere we had to be so we couldn’t just hanker down in the house.

I’m so over winter. I am sure I have mentioned it many times. I counting down the days until J and I have our warm vacation. It’s getting closer.

20140125-161438.jpgBecause I was off Friday I keep feeling like today is Sunday.  I think tomorrow will feel super awesome as a result.  It’s like a bonus day.  Which is good since I have lots I still want to accomplish this weekend.

Monday AMRAP

Another Monday done and in the books and it wasn’t so bad!  I found this awhile ago on Pinterest and posted it on facebook several weeks ago and I had people commenting “thank you” on it.  I think it’s a great way to make Monday a more positive thing.  I know the usual trend for my Monday posts is the “I hate Monday” theme but let’s try something different.

I got through my Monday just fine.  Well just fine aside from the splitting headache and upset tummy, but that’s just a stress thing from my personal struggles lately (I’m getting through it).  I had delicious leftover soup for lunch which really brought a bright point to my life.  It’s pretty sad how much food can brighten my day.

Monday also means my 4:15 CrossFit class.  It was a busy class today with lots of new faces which is always nice to see.  We did our own stretches, some rowing and then did a group warm up.

I worked with one of the other regulars and I worked up to 85 lbs.  I think I could have gone heavier but decided I was good to leave it at 85lbs for yesterday.

I ended up getting 7 rounds in and 5 burpees on my 8th round.  Not too shabby.  I felt good after, it was a good over all workout and we didn’t use any weight and I was ok with that.  A nice change.  I felt energized and refreshed after it.

After we got home and cleaned up we headed next door to J’s grandparent’s house for dinner.  It was the annual “Grandkid’s dinner” and we also have a crocono tournament.  I was terrible.  Me and C were partners and I think we both did equally as well.  We need to brush up on our skills for next year for sure.

The Best Soup She’s Ever Had

This weekend I took a break from workouts to relax and get through some personal stuff going on in my life. So there are no awesome workout’s to post about. We had a lot of family time and I had a bit of “me time” and kind of just got through.

Sunday morning we went to visit my new niece!  This was the exciting news I referenced last week, I didn’t want to post it all over the interweb until the family had all been notified.  This was our second visit and this time we got to hold her.

It was also a weekend of lazy eating.  I wasn’t up to cooking at all.  We ordered in Thai food on Saturday night.  We knew we had to get back into our healthier habits for the week.  It’s a busy week so it might be a challenge.  I wanted to make a soup yesterday, so I came up with a crockpot recipe that I thought would be delicious- Hamburger soup.  I got everything prepped and chopped and in the crockpot and got excited that in six hours dinner would be made.  After the soup prep I made a sausage and sweet potato hash to have ready for quick breakfast eats.  It turned out to be really delicious and I enjoyed it this morning with a fried egg on top.

At 5:00 we had to leave to head for C’s swimming lesson, I decided to check on my soup.  That’s when I realized I am a genius and did not plug the crock pot in!!!  Devastating.  J is a quick thinker and suggested we just put it on the stove and let it simmer while we went to swimming and we did just that.  We had to tweak the recipe a little more but it was for the better.  It was ready when we got home and we served it up and we were so thrilled with the end result.

C must have told me at least 3 times during the meal that the soup was SO good.  She said that it was “the best soup she has ever had… seriously”.  I was glowing.  I love seeing her enjoy something I have made for her that much.  I figured since it turned out so amazing I had better share the recipe.

Hamburger Soup or “The Best Soup I Have Ever Made”

1 lb ground beef

3 chopped potatos

2 chopped carrots

1 chopped onion

frozen peas

frozen corn

1 can of tomato soup

water/ beef broth

seasonings- I used garlic powder, salt, pepper, Italian seasonings

Basically I browned the beef and then threw it along with everything else in a pot and simmered it for about an hour and a half.  You could also add pasta if you wanted but we decided against.  I am sorry I don’t have better measurements for you.  I would guess we used a couple cups of stock and about three cups of water.  I really never measure when I make soup so I can’t say for sure.  We also browned the onions a little first to soften them up.

We served ours topped with some grated mozzarella cheese.  Yummy!  Let me know if you try it!
