Plate Pushes and Push Presses

Monday done and in the books.  TGMO.  Thank God Monday’s Over.  I just made that up.  I hope it catches on.  Anyway, after work I hit up my CrossFit class to get my sweat on.  It did not disappoint.  We did our warm up which involved some push press, front squats and straight leg deadlifts.

SWOD

Front squats 5 @ 55lbs, 3 @ 75lbs, 3 @ 85 lbs, 2 @ 85 lbs, 2 @ 90 lbs, 1 @ 95 lbs, 1 @ 100 lbs.

WOD

5 rounds

1 min plate push

1 min push press to fail, then front squats to fail and then hold plank for remaining time.  The idea was to go heavy so you would only get about 5 or 6 reps of the push press in.  Most people didn’t plank, they just finished the minute with front squats.  I opted to skip the squats and just hold plank each round because my legs were T-I-R-E-D.  I used 65 lbs for this wod.

We got a minute to rest between each round.  It was a doozy.  I was wiped after this one.  I banged off 30 sit ups and did a quick stress and headed to pick up C.

I realized I was still out of breath when I got in my car

Wow that is soooo not a flattering picture.  But it’s how I felt so I will leave it.  Anyway, did groceries and headed home.  We had a quick dinner of big salads and chicken.  I had a nice surprise waiting for me when I got home.  A delivery from Lululemon!!!

I was pretty excited to get these shorts.  I really wanted the crops but they sold out online pretty much instantly.  With the weather getting warmer I figured it was a good time to stock up on shorts since I have a pretty good crop assortment already.  Now I just need it to warm up again so I can wear them.

I hope everyone’s Monday was as painless as possible.

Do you prefer shorts or crops for workouts?

For Summer I definitely like my shorts.

A Crappy Run is Still a Run

This weekend has been a ton of fun and has gone WAY too fast. I will start with Friday. Post work CrossFit class.

WOD
5 rounds
10 back squats (55 lbs)
5 deadlifts (105 lbs)
Partner sprints while you do your lifts
12 burpees (each)

The next part of the evening was the really exciting part. C and I met my future sister in law at a bridal store to try on wedding gowns. I wasn’t really looking forward to it because I had been once before and it was fun but I left really confused about what I wanted. This appointment went really different. I started explaining what I was looking for and she totally got it. She got it more than I did. She pulled out dresses I never thought I would like and the second one I put on was THE one. I felt so beautiful and knew J would love it on me. So I did it! I bought it!!

Saturday morning C and I got ready and we headed to CrossFit. She was happy that one of the kids that normally goes too was there so they could play. The wod was a partner one and my usual partner and I were finally reunited after several weeks of not seeing each other.

SWOD
Build to a 1 rep max push press
I got to a 95lb lift. I feel like I could have done more but my lower back felt tight so I stopped at that weight.

WOD
“Partner Helen”
3 rounds
400 m run
21 kettle bell swings
12 pull ups

We each did Helen but one ran while the other did the swings and pull ups and vice versa. We finished in 13:04.

In the afternoon we had a wedding for good friends of ours. Here are some if the highlights.

Sunday morning I went shopping with C and my Mom and it was nice to have the girl time. After my parents left I got ready for a run. I honestly wasn’t feeling like going at all. I had planned to do a longer run but I knew I would be lucky to get 5 km in so I decided to start with that and see how it goes. Well it didn’t go well at all. I felt heavy and couldn’t get my head into it at all. I finished the 5 km but there was quite a few walking breaks.

On the bright side it was a beauty day and it felt good to be out. So it was not a total loss. I figure I still got out and still got active so it’s better than nothing.

It’s back to work tomorrow. I’m just enjoying the last of the weekend snuggling with my guy on the couch.

What did you do to get active this weekend?

More Bullet Points…

I have decided that since I have a bunch of random thoughts today I would present them to you in bullet points.  Again.  It’s just easier for me to make my random babble sound more organized and presentable.  So that’s how I am going to roll.

1. Wednesday I had one of those days where I was on edge ALL day.  Like seriously ALL day long.  I couldn’t relax and my mind was racing.  I did make it to CrossFit and the wod was an awesome one but I had a childcare issue come up and spent a lot of time on the phone figuring that out so I didn’t get to experience the full awesomeness of the wod.  I did have sore arms the next day which made me feel better about it.  I obviously got something out of it.

2. Another thing that happened Wednesday to fluster me pre-wod was I was getting changed and realized I had forgotten to pack socks!  I asked the class if anyone had some and thankfully one of the girls had some in her car so she hooked me up.

They totally didn't match.
They totally didn’t match.

3.  I actually went to bed early on Wednesday simply so I wouldn’t have to deal with the day    anymore.

4. Thursday- a new day.  I had another frustrating day.  I was really spilly and droppy.  My bra strap came off and smacked me in the face while I was changing, I dropped so many things while I was getting ready.

5. I decided to go for a run after work, both to clear my mind and also because I really needed to get my mileage up for my upcoming half marathon.  It ended up being an awesome run just over 6 km.  I went on a route near C’s school, and I tackled a hill that has always been my nemesis.  It’s called the “Jerseyville hill”.  well, that’s what I call it anyway.  It’s a tough one and I have always had to stop at least once to walk on it.  Not yesterday!!!  Not even once during the whole 6km did I stop and walk and it included the hill.  Nice try Jerseyville Hill.  I won.

Pre-run selfie.

6.  James made one of my favourite dinners last night.  Turkey sausage with peppers and mushrooms and it’s like a stew.  He adds Quinoa instead of rice and it’s delicious every time.  I enjoyed it to the fullest in full comfort.  On the couch with my feet up.

7. It’s Friday.  I woke up on time, so did C.  There was no rushing.  I got to wear jeans.  And there were cookies in the lunchroom.

day. made.
day. made.

I feel like all of this is a premonition to a better day than the last two.  I will take it.  Good things are planned for the weekend.  It’s sunny.  It’s Friday.  All seems ok in the world.

I also want to send a shout out to my bestie L.  She’s got a big day of travelling planned to be reunited with her true love across the world.  There will be laughter, and tears, and so much love and I am so excited for her.  Safe travels friend.  xoxox

Do you ever have one of those days where you just want to go to bed to get it done with?

Do you have a hill that you feel is your running nemesis?

I don’t anymore!!!

On the Mend

Today was back to work after a nasty Easter stomach virus. Ugh. Just thinking about how awful I felt makes me shudder. Thank God C was at her grandparents and missed it. I’m not worried she will catch it because that would be the worst.

Today I felt better but still not 100%. I feel gross after I eat but I had a real appetite again. I hit up my usual CrossFit class and wasn’t sure how that would go. Thankfully my coach knew I had been ill so suggested I take it a little easier since I was likely still dehydrated and weak.

We started with some skill work on our overhead squats. I have never gone heavy with these because form is so important. I worked with a training bar today and just worked on not leaning forward. I feel like it was good for me and I may have shown some improvement.

WOD 1 – 6 min
21*18*15*12*9*6*3*
The numbers represent kettlebell swings and the * is a sprint.

WOD 2- 6 min
6 min manmakers.
Ouch! This one I skipped and just did some arm work with dumbbells. I didn’t think I could do the up and down of these. The first wod already knocked me on my feet.

WOD 3- 6 min
2 sit ups
Farmers carry across parking lot
2 burpees – I did air squats bc of my tummy issues.
Ladder up by two after each cycle.

All the wods were done outside. It was a beautiful day out. The temperature on my car gage said 25 degrees! I wore shorts and a tank and felt awesome.

I then headed home and stopped at the farm because C was there with J. There were two new calves born that were super cute. C was having a great time running around.

20140421-213350.jpg
I got home and got to work on dinner. The nice weather had me craving homemade burgers. I threw together a bunch of ingredients and we ended up with these beauties.

20140421-213449.jpg
It was delicious and it tasted a little bit like Summer. I would be totally ok with it if this weather sticks around for awhile.

Did you have to work today on Easter Monday?
I did. Booooo.

What “tastes like Summer” for you?

Feeling Sorry for Myself

Well Easter weekend didn’t end up being as fun as I had planned. I woke up Saturday and felt gross. My stomach was off and I had a splitting headache. I got my gym clothes on and thought I might feel better after the class. I didn’t make it there. I felt like I was going to be sick and then the other end started (sorry too much information).

It ended up that I was SO sick all day. I literally didn’t leave the couch unless it was to be sick. Which was quite frequently. I missed the stag and doe that I was supposed to help out at.

20140420-092334.jpg
That picture is terrible but it sums up how I felt all day.

I was sick a couple times through the night. This morning I am feeling a little bit better but not wonderful. I am thinking that it won’t be a very exciting day. We have a family brunch that I won’t make it to. I don’t want to get anyone else sick.

I am also bummed that I won’t get my training run in. I was planning on running 14 km this weekend and it didn’t happen. So now I feel like I am behind on that too. Ugh. I am definitely feeling sorry for myself this weekend. 😦

Did you do anything exciting for this weekend?

Reunion and Recaps

Short week for me because it’s Good Friday today and I took Thursday off work. First a recap of Wednesdays wod.

SWOD
1 hang clean
2 front squats
1 push press
1 power clean
2 front squats
1 push press

I worked up to 75 lbs for this.

WOD
EMOTM for 10 minutes
7 push press
5 box jumps

I used 55 lbs and wanted to drop the weight so bad but my coach told me not to and I was so glad I didn’t.

The next day I was off work and got up and got ready and went to pick up my best girl L so we could spend the day together. She was in town visiting from Vancouver. We went to a bridal shop to try on wedding dresses as well as to try on some bridesmaid dresses. I think we picked the bridesmaid dresses. We had lunch and then headed to our friends birthday party. It was really nice to see everyone and it was so nice that L and I got to catch up.

20140418-220443.jpg
We got up today and headed to a morning CrossFit class. I was feeling less than perfect after a few beers last night. The wod was not an easy one.

We started with a strength wod of finding our 2 rep max for our deadlift. I got to 135lbs. I wanted to go with more but there were a lot of people and a lot of weights being used so I just stopped there.

WOD
100 thrusters / run 200 m
300 goblet squats / parking lot sprints
500 burpees

This was done in partners for the first two movements. I did thrusters and L ran and then we switch until we get to 100. Then we move to goblet squats and one squats while the other does a parking lot sprint. Finally for burpees the 500 was split between 2 teams, or 4 people. We had 30 min to complete it. I did 105 burpees!!! Insane. And with a slight hangover too!

20140418-224307.jpg

Sadly L and I had to say our goodbyes and J and C and I headed to visit my family for an Easter dinner. It was nice to see everyone. It was our first family gathering since our engagement so it was fun to talk about our plans. My sister brought these amazing cupcakes that her friend made.

20140418-224626.jpg
It was such a nice meal and visit. And the best part is the weekend is not even half over yet! I love long weekends. Especially when they are spent with awesome friends and family.

Are you having a big Easter dinner?

Trying Not to Complain

With my event over and after an amazing weekend I was back to my usual Monday night Crossfit class.  It felt so good to be back in the routine of things. I headed over straight from work to get my sweat on.

Since I have been getting back into running I am finding my leg is bothering me just a bit more.  Maybe it’s just because there is a lot more action with it.  So I am modifying the wod’s where I need to, and trying to convince myself it’s fine.  I definitely won’t push through anything that is causing PAIN, but a little discomfort afterwards I would say is normal.

SWOD

5 sets of 5 back squats- I just went to 85 lbs

5 sets of 3 strict pull ups- I was able to use red band for all of them!

WOD

5 rounds

20 burpees

50 lunges

Can you say ouch???  That is a brutal wod!  I got through the first round and then got through 15 burpees on the second and my quad was telling me five rounds was just not going to happen.  So we modified my workout to be 20 push ups, 25 box step ups and 25 sit ups.  I got all five rounds in.  Then I did 100 Russian twists with a dumbbell.

I headed home to get organized and get dinner on because I was having a friend over for a visit.  When I got home I was excited to see I got a delivery.  I got my new shoes that I ordered from Mizuno!  Aren’t they pretty?

Inspires- I do feel inspired with them.
Inspires- I do feel inspired with them.

Dinner was a team effort.  I had it started and J came home and he did the steak.  He does such a good job grilling steak I leave that to him.  I made roasted brussel sprouts and sweet potato patties. It turned out to be a delicious dinner.

I am soooo not a food photographer.
I am soooo not a food photographer.

After dinner my friend S came over and it was so nice to catch up.  It had been way too long since I saw her.  J totally pampered us and brought us tea.  Then he cleaned up the kitchen and made lunches for C and I!!  I am one lucky lady.  He even made me breakfast, I just had to heat and serve this morning!!!

Today we woke up to snow.  Seriously?  I refuse to complain about it because the end of the week it is going to get warmer so I am treating it like it is a minor Spring set back.  It’s not going to ruin my week because I have a lot of fun things planned for this week!

Did you get more snow??

Are you excited for Easter?

loooong weekend!!!!!  wooohoooooo!!!
