Starting it Off Right

Well friends. It is here and it has begun. The weekend!!!! It started off for me with an afternoon off! I went for a much needed visit to my chiro and then headed to the school for C’s assembly. She joined a dance team and their performance was yesterday. After that I headed to the nail salon and got a manicure.

I chose one of my favourites “I Mainely Eat Lobster” by OPI. It’s a usual in my rotation. Then I headed off to the gym and had an amazing workout. Seriously one of the sweatiest workouts ever.

Work to a 3 rm deadlift. I got to 155 lbs.

Got home and relaxed for awhile. Then J got home and we did this for about an hour.

It was our first porch beer of the season. Well it was my first porch beer of the season and it was lovely. It’s a nice way to unwind after a week of work and activities. Then we headed to our favourite pub for dinner where we met up with his parents and watched his sister sing.

This morning I was up and ready for my Saturday morning CrossFit class. It is another beautiful day outside and that just makes me even more motivated to get moving. We started with strength.

SWOD
Work to a 1 rm of this combo: 1 power clean, 2 front squats and 1 push jerk. I got to 80 lbs. I had 80 for the clean and squats but didn’t attempt the push jerk.

It was a real chipper. I used 45 lbs for the lifts. I also did 4 manmakers and with a that running my quad and hip were sore so I subbed in sit ups and did 30 sit ups. I finished a sweaty mess.

Getting up and working out Saturday mornings is my favourite way to start off the weekend. I feel so energized and ready to go. I’ve got lots of plans for the rest of the day and lots of things I want to accomplish. Hopefully I can keep the energy going for the rest of the day.

What are you hoping to accomplish this weekend?
For me it’s some garden work.

Do you usually start Saturday morning with a workout?

Things I’ve Been Thinking…

 

I have had a lot of random thoughts to myself lately about what I am really digging these days so I thought what better way to get them out then to post about them for all to see?  Well not ALL… but my just over 100 followers.  (Thanks by the way to everyone following- I get really excited every time I get notified of a new follower).

Firstly, last night I got my hair did.  It’s pretty much one of my favourite things to do.  Not only because I leave feeling beautiful and many years younger, but because I get to visit with a pretty awesome stylist.  It’s like going to a friend’s house, except I leave with great hair.

I decided to go back to the red I had last year.  I was over the ombre and lighter ends and I used to get so many compliments on the red.  Also I have been thinking that the red would be really nice for my fall/winter wedding so we started the transition now thinking it would take awhile to get the right colour.  We were wrong- it took right away and if you ask me it looks pretty fabulous.

I have been really into a few songs lately.  They are on my work playlist and kind of on repeat it seems in my car.

How dreamy is the Sam Smith song?  And Luke Bryan- he can crash my party anytime.  H.O.T.  That’s what I have been thinking music wise.  Additionally I am obsessed with finding the perfect wedding songs.  I am talking ceremony, first dance, father daughter dance… all of it.  I am open to suggestions.  Help me out friends.

I am OBSESSED with these snack treats.  OBSESSED.  I can’t stop eating them.  Thank god they come in little packs so I just pack one to work and only have one a day.  Most days.  I have been known to have two.  I am well stocked up on them.

Remember I told you the other day about the caprese chicken I made?  It was so delicious but I forgot to take a photo.  Well I had some leftovers that I ate for lunch and fortunately for you guys I did remember to take a photo of them, so here it is.

It was so tasty and so easy it will definitely make it into the regular dinner rotation.  So that’s some of what my thoughts have been lately.  I am also thinking I am excited that it’s Friday Jr and tomorrow is the weekend!

No Gym? No Problem.

 

Tuesdays are the days I run.  I run because it’s the best way to get a workout in while C has her singing class.  My choices are to run for the 30 minutes, or to sit for the 30 minutes and play on my phone.  I try to make the most of that time and run but yesterday I just didn’t feel like running.  I thought ok maybe I can do my ten minutes of skipping while I am there.  So I wore my gym clothes and packed my rope and water and decided that’s what I would do with my time.

Once I got out there I decided I could do much more.  I had the car door open with my water in there and my music on, and I decided I could use the bottom of the car for tricep dips and make a wod to do.  So I did just that.  I first did 5 minutes of skipping and double under practice.  Then I did this wod:

5 rounds

10 tricep dips

10 push ups

20 Russian twists

10 sit ups

Then I finished with another 5 minutes of skipping/ double under practice to get my 10 minutes in. I also did a max plank hold and held it for a minute and 40 seconds!  I felt great.  I got some strange looks from other people in the parking lot.  I think I provided some entertainment to one lady who was eating what appeared to be a burger in her parked car.  Glad to help friends.

I finished just in time to get C from her class and we headed home.  We were having a guest for dinner unexpectedly so we decided to order pizza.  After that workout I was feeling so good and inspired that I decided I didn’t want to eat pizza and I had salad and a homemade chicken caprese.  I saw it on pinterest but didn’t follow a recipe.  It was grilled seasoned chicken served with sliced fresh mozzarella and warmed cherry tomatoes.  It was delicious.  I had it with a salad and in blogger fail fashion did not get a photo of it.  Never fear blog friends, I WILL be making this again and will indeed take photos then.

After dinner we all played the game Kerplunk.  It was a lot of fun, we all got into it.  I love board games and stuff like that because it’s perfect for any age.

The rest of the night was spent relaxing and keeping cool.  Our house was really warm but we don’t want to turn our air conditioning on yet.  The weather here has been incredible and just like summer this week.  I am NOT complaining about that one bit!

I Was a Sweaty Betty

I survived Monday friends. I did ok. It was a pretty good day all in all except for this pesky headache that won’t quit. It kind of comes and goes all day long and right now it’s going strong.

After work I hit up CrossFit and had a deadly workout. The SWOD was to work up to a 10 rep max for our back squat. I did 85 lbs. I felt pretty good.

We had 3 minutes to do the 200 m run and then for the rest of the time we did lunges. I alternated and did sit ups for every other round. It was a tough one. We did the whole workout outside and it was hot out! The weather here is nuts and now it’s so warm out! I was a real sweaty mess by the time that wod was done. We finished with push ups and planks.

After the workout I had to do groceries and I didn’t want to do that hungry so I had a protein bar in the car.

It tasted like an Oreo. As much as a protein bar can lol. We did our groceries and had a quiet night at home. I got some laundry done and got lunches packed and of course am watching the Bachelorette. I won’t give any spoilers out on this one. I will say right now Marcus is my favourite. And I’m a little partial to Chris. He is a farmer after all.

Totally Worth It

This weekend was a whirlwind of awesomeness.  I had so much fun.  The best part was I got to spend a ton of it with one of my favourite people in the world, my big sister.  Saturday morning came and my sister arrived around 10:00 am.  I was of course not ready yet, I am always running late.  I got my shit together and finished getting ready and we headed to the boutique where we were meeting two other bridesmaids to try on and decide on dresses.  We were short one very important bridesmaid but she lives all the way in Vancouver so she couldn’t attend.

We had a ton of fun with everyone trying the different styles on, and it seems everyone found something they really like.  What’s most exciting is I think most of them will actually be able to wear the dress again.  Of course we took a ton of photos but I won’t be sharing any of them because they are going to be a surprise for wedding guests.  Another amazing bonus of the morning was that my dress had arrived and I got to put it on for everyone!  I am happy to report I still love it just as much as when I first tried it on…. if not more!  I am so excited for our wedding day!!

After the dress shopping my sister and C and I headed for lunch to Turtle Jacks and my future sister in law ended up joining us.  The weather was so nice we were able to sit on the patio.  Unfortunately just when we were going to get our food the skies got angry and it began to rain.  So our patio lunch was short lived and we had to move inside.

After lunch we found a place for my sister to get a hair cut and C was so patient I let her get a feather in her hair.  She has been asking for one for the longest time.  Then we decided to head over to Target and do some shopping.  I wanted some new summer dresses and I have always had luck with dress shopping there.  This day was no different.  I actually found three I really liked.  When we got to check it out it turned out all three of them were on sale for only $20 each!  Not too shabby at all.  I think its safe to say we did some serious damage at Target between the three of us.

Afterwards we had to drive to Caledonia to drop something off to J who was helping out at a friend’s stag and doe.  We did that and then worked up more of an appetite so we went out for dinner and we got Thai food.  Then as promised to C all day, we went for ice cream.  What an awesome day we all had together.  It was exhausting but totally worth it.

Sunday we got up and my sister and I had a 5km race.  We headed out to get there for 9am.  The weather was incredible.  I was actually hot when I was running.  My lungs were confused because they are so used to running when its cooler out.  I did pretty well.  I finished in 30:58 which was a pretty good time for me.  I know I could have given it a little more, but this is a really fun race, there are a lot of people that are just walking it with their kids etc.  I think next year I will bring C and we will do it together.  I was a really sweaty mess when I finished.

I had to get home pretty much right when the race finished to get showered and ready for a family party at the farm.  One of J’s cousin’s got married and we were there to celebrate their marriage and it was also a going away party for them, they are moving to Texas!  It was a nice day and we sat outside in the sun.  I think the sun got to me after the race, and I also had a couple beers.  I started to feel exhausted by the end of the party.  When we got home I literally crashed on the couch and slept for a couple hours!  I didn’t think I would be able to sleep last night but I still did.  I got a really bad headache though I think from all the sun and not drinking enough water.

Here we are now, back to reality and the work week.  I didn’t get groceries or any laundry done over the weekend so I definitely will have some catching up to do, but it was such a nice weekend it was worth it.  Now we just have to get through the work week.

Comfy Cozy

The weekend has gotten off to a pretty great start already. I left work and went straight to CrossFit. Strength wod was deadlifting. We worked on our one rep max. I wasn’t expecting too much since I just PR’d that lift last Friday. Holy crap! I lifted 205 lbs today! And honesty it felt good. I didn’t try to go higher because I felt good and decided to stop there.

Basically it was 10 push press, 10 front squats and a sprint, then 9 and 9 and a sprint and so on to 1. I asked my coach what he thought about me doing 55 lbs. He seemed surprised I think. Maybe he thought it was heavy for me? It was heavy. But I didn’t drop the weight and kept up with the 55 lbs. It just took me a little longer to finish. Once again I was the last one. I didn’t mind though because I wanted to challenge myself with the weight. I finished in 12:54.

We finished the workout with some ab work with our coach. I was a sweaty mess after this one.

Gross. When I got home I spent 10 minutes out on the porch skipping and practicing my double unders. No luck today. It didn’t help that I was feeling pretty wiped from the wod.

Dinner was delicious. I made breakfast for dinner again. This time we had breakfast sausage instead of bacon.

The only thing missing was cuddles with J. He was at baseball so it was just us girls. I figured since I have such a great and exciting day planned tomorrow it was ok to spend the night cozy on the couch.

It’s Friday and I’m Excited!!!

There are many things to be excited about today.  One, it’s Friday!!!!  The weekend is here already!!!  Also, I have some pretty exciting things planned for this weekend so I am ready to get it going!  Good times are definitely ahead.  Let’s get to business first though.  Recap of yesterday’s workout…

After Wednesday’s double under workout I decided I needed to work on my double unders.  I suck.  I used to be able to string a few together at least, but now I can’t even get one!  I took some serious time off from all skipping when I hurt my quad and it really set me back with my double under practice.  So- no excuses.  I want to try and do 10 minutes a day practicing.  I found a great spot to practice on my front porch.  I did about 15 minutes of skipping and double under attempts and a whole lot of whipping myself with the rope.

After that I moved inside (it was chilly on the porch) and did 2 sets of 10 pull ups.  I did a kind of jumping pull up, but it still worked my arms and I felt it last night.  It’s pretty great having that pull up bar at home to use.  I am also working on my L-sits and I am getting much better at those as well.  I finished off my quick little workout with another round of Tabata planks.  This time I alternated between side planks and regular planks.  I am noticing major improvement with my plank abilities.

The rest of the evening included a visit from a friend and a breakfast for dinner meal.  I wish I had taken a photo of the deliciousness but I made bacon, asparagus, a fried egg and half a toasty pita with avocado on it.  It was so yummy.  I am debating having the very same thing tonight.

Random note- I tried these today, a friend gave me a package to sample.

Let me just say one thing about them.  My life has been changed.  I must find more of these and have them in my life permanently.  They are so good!!!

Tonight we have my usual workout planned and then tomorrow is exciting.  Bridesmaid dress shopping!  My sister is coming for the weekend so we will get lots of quality sister time.  Sunday morning we are doing a 5km race together too!  I am really looking forward to the weekend and hope the rest of this day just flies by.

 

Double unders- can you do them?  Any tips?

I hear its all in the wrist and I think I am close but I definitely need more practice.  10 minutes a day friends.  That’s the plan.
