Good Eats and Less Treats

I’ve been pretty good this week. I mean not perfect and definitely some weak will power moments but I’m doing my best to stick to what I pack in my lunch.  Tuesday I got up early because C just couldn’t contain her excitement for the first day of school. I used the extra time to my advantage and did a quick workout with skipping for every other minute and adding in some other movements for the rest. It was a great way to start the day. I also made myself a healthy breakfast.

grade 4 already?
I didn’t go to the gym that night because C had Guides to attend. I was on my own for dinner so I made this creation of leftover pulled pork on an English muffin topped with a fried egg. I enjoyed this watching an episode of Catfish.

Wednesday I intended on getting up early again but I had a headache that wouldn’t quit. I instead snoozed and missed my chance for a healthy breakfast so I packed some turkey bacon and a peach instead. My lunch was still healthy as I had made it the night before.

I did get to the gym and the new monthly challenge was what we started with. It was 75 s of clean and press. I did 11 reps at 65 lbs. I was surprised how fast the time went.

Wod- EMOTM- 12 minutes

3 burpees pull ups

5 goblet squats

7 jack knives

This was pretty tough. We finished with some more abs. We had a late dinner as J worked late and C was with her grandma. J grilled and we made a zucchini creation that was Asian flavours and quite spicy. It was really good.

yummy

The best part is there was leftovers for my lunch too.  So it’s been pretty good so far. Let’s see if I can keep it up. With yummy meals like these it shouldn’t be too hard.

What’s your favourite healthy meal?

Hello Routine. It’s Good to Have You Back

Oh I love long weekends so so much. But it makes it so much harder to go back to work.  It’s like the Sunday blues but stronger and deeper.

#truth

The weekend wrapped up with our trip home from the camper and a stop at our favourite ice cream place. I didn’t document it but found this picture on the interweb that shows its charm

When we got home I decided to tackle a mountain of laundry and got lots of that done. That includes cleaning out two drawers and putting aside some clothes I don’t wear anymore.  C is quite excited about going back to school so we got lots ready for her including her shower, painting her nails, braiding her hair, and packing her lunch and bag.

I decided I had to do a workout of some sort because I was feeling stressed and it had been a relaxing couple of days. I set my timer on the”rounds” setting for 20 rounds of one minute.  I did a variety of exercises including abs and dumbbell arm stuff with every other interval being skipping.  We are in the middle of a heatwave and the skipping happened on the deck outside and it was steamy.

Dinner was this delicious feast of steak, roasted beets on a salad and what might be some of the last sweet corn of the season.

so delicious

Now we are back to the grind and back to routine which usually works in my favour. I work very well with routine in my life.  I hope the transition is smooth for all of us. xoxo

Routine?  Boring or do you like it?

Feeling Grateful and So Sore

My poor legs and hips have been sore ever since our wod on Tuesday. I’m guessing it was the lunges because oh man my quads and my hips are killing me. My hips especially. I feel like an old lady. I didn’t let it stop me from going to the gym on Wednesday night. I had to go to a later class and bring C with me. She has been a good sport this week coming with me every day.  J was out for the evening so C and I would be on our own for dinner. When I got to the gym my friend told me she was meeting another girl from our gym for shawarma so C and I decided to join them. We had to get through the workout first.

Strength was sets of two push press. It was supposed to be 2 front squats and 1 push press but since we both had such fried legs coach changed it to push press. We shared a bar and before I realized how much we were lifting I repped off 2 reps at 105 lbs!  I was pretty happy with that.

WOD

Sprint

5 dumbell presses from knees (each side)

5 Turkish get ups- just the first part, not getting all the way up – each side

5 push ups

We did 4 rounds and it felt a lot harder than it sounded. We then headed to get dinner and meet up with our other friend. We had such a nice time together and when I got home and reflected on my evening all I could think was how lucky I am to have found a place I feel so comfortable and such amazing people.  I have made such wonderful friends there; friendships that have continued outside of the gym. I really do feel so grateful to have these people in my life.

for me not the morning but still so very true

Thursday I woke up and I was still so sore in my legs and hips. It’s weird how it’s sore but it still kind of feels good. Like pride in how hard you worked.

Thursday’s workout was also a good one. The strength I chose was strict press. We repped 5 and I worked up to 5 @ 70 lbs. not too shabby.

WOD

P1- 800 m run  P2- abs

P1- 400 m run, P2- burpees

P1- 200 m run, P2- man makers

I liked this workout a lot. I love the ones where we run and do other stuff in between. I felt good running today. Maybe the eating healthy is paying off?

Speaking of eating healthy we had this amazing dinner.

homemade turkey burgers, grilled peppers and zucchini and guac

It was such a good dinner. J really is an amazing griller. The burgers were cooked perfectly and his zucchini is incredible.

We finally made it to Friday friends!  That’s a reason to celebrate!

Have you got anything planned for the weekend?

We have a busy weekend ahead and I cannot wait!

All the Naps

I love those weekends where you really don’t have a lot planned. They end up being the best weekends. I feel like life has been crazy for us all lately and it was a nice treat to not have anything planned for a change.

After our quiet Saturday evening I slept like a baby and even slept in a little bit.  I had breakfast and got myself ready to go back to the corn stand to help out again. C helped as well and it turns out her customer service skills are on point.

bad hair dont care

We spent the morning there and then went to a BBQ at J’s grandparents house. After that we went for a ride in his Dad’s old convertible Mustang (I am really wishing I had a photo). We went to a bakery up the road and got a peach pie which I cannot wait to eat.

When we got home everyone was just so tired. I sat down with a tea and didn’t even have one sip of it before I fell asleep. I ended up sleeping for a couple of hours!  That’s two naps this weekend!  I am not a big napper but I think I could get used to this.

I didn’t want to be completely sloth like so I did some laundry and tried to organize things for the week. I made a batch of chia pudding for breakfast for myself, and prepped for C for the week for her camp. There was a long list of things for her to bring/ pack.

Dinner was marinated flank steak and some roasted beets and brussel sprouts.  Can I just tell you guys how much I love beets?  Roasted they were so good. We also did some mushrooms up to go with it and this dinner was incredible.

the. bomb.

We also enjoyed peach pie that we picked up earlier in the day which was so delicious. I love peach pie. It’s pretty much my favourite kind of pie and it’s in season right now.

It was such a relaxing weekend and it was so much what I needed. I feel more refreshed and ready to take on the week. If only we could just have one more day though. xoxo

What is your favourite kind of pie?

Peach for me and when it’s not in season I like cherry a lot too.

Starting it Off Right

Wednesday morning I finally got my ass out of bed and headed out for a morning run.  I have been wanting to do it for awhile but am so terrible at mornings that I kept snoozing my alarm for almost an hour every day!!!

alarm

C is with my parents for the week so I do have extra time in the morning so I figured I better take advantage of it and be productive.  After going over every excuse I could think of I finally got up and threw on some running clothes and a hat and headed out.  It was such a pretty morning out, the sun was so bright, it smelled fresh (and farmy) out and it wasn’t too hot yet.  Pretty much perfect running conditions

beautiful

I managed to stick to my healthy snacks and lunch all day and was on point with my water consumption. I headed to the gym after work and our strength was strict press. I managed to hit a PR with it and pressed 80lbs. The workout was sprints, pull ups, box steps and push ups with a row. My knees weren’t feeling it last night, probably from running in the morning so I subbed in some abs.

We had friends for dinner and a BBQ on our new deck. I made my delicious guacamole again so I definitely ate an unhealthy amount of chips and guac.

so freaking good

We also had turkey burgers, no bun for me, corn and tomato salad. It was a really good dinner. Followed by a couple of games of Euchre. It was a great night. It felt like a weekend but sadly it’s not yet. Sigh.

Favourite card game?

I like euchre but my faves are asshole and canasta. And I also like cribbage. I love playing cards.

It’s All in the Wrists

Oh Monday… why must you be so cruel.  It started out just as good as I thought it would.  Work was nuts, the day went pretty quick and I was more than ready to sweat out some stress.  Speaking of sweat, we are in the middle of a heat wave here in Ontario so sweat is happening on the regular.

The strength Monday was 5 reps of back squats.  I think I worked to 115 lbs and attempted 125 but just did 3 reps.

WOD- 5 rounds

1 min on/ 15 s rest

Push press

Double unders

Sit ups

Burpees

This was tough. The burpees were killer and the push press got heavy really fast. The important thing to point out was the double unders. I got a new rope from my coach last week and I was ready to use it.  I was getting a few here and there and then my coach reminded me to use my wrists and boom!  I got it!  I got seven in a row!  I honestly think I could have done more because my glasses were falling off.

these legs. killed it.

The evening was spent watching the Bachelorette finale.  Obvi. I was happy with the result but does it have to be so long?!?! It feels like it just dragged on.

Tuesday I had to be at work for 630 am which feels really early for me. I had such a busy day and was feeling so tired by the time I left work. I had about an hour to myself before I had to pick up C so I took the opportunity to lay down and I had a glorious 20 min snooze. Then I got myself ready for the gym.

I headed over after stopping for C to get a snack. I was NOT feeling it. Stretching I literally just wanted to lay down. Once we did the warm up I felt a little more energized. We started off with our push press challenge and I decided to increase to 90 lbs and my goal was 8 reps. Well I must have got Hercules strength out of no where and I managed to bust out 10 reps!  I felt so amazing after.  Then we did the wod which was different Tabata wods where it was 20 s of one movement and 10 s of another.

Lunges/ Turkish get up

Mountain climbers/ plank

Sit ups/ v sits

Squats with a dumbbell press out/ push ups

Sprawls/ sprint on the spot

I was so tired after this workout. I couldn’t wait to get home and lay down. Sadly it didn’t happen because #life.

feeling jacked after the workout today

I got C dinner and showered and tucked to bed and did dishes and then finally sat down to eat. The plus side was I ate this amazing meal.

It was so good. I had greens, veggies, feta, steak and nectarine on there and then the dressing was Bolthouse yogurt ranch dressing. I really enjoyed it and actually made a second one for lunch. Can’t wait to eat that again.

I made it an early night and headed up to bed to try and feel more rested. Sometimes you just need some extra sleep.

Do you like salads for dinner?

I’m enjoying them in the hot weather we are having these days.

A Bad Hair Monday

So as I mentioned I made the chop on my hair this weekend and I hadn’t really had to do much to it as she curled it and the curls turned into waves yesterday. Yesterday however was a different story. I didn’t wash it when I showered in the morning thinking I could just retouch the waves. Boy was I wrong. I suck at waves in general and it turns out I suck even more with the shorter version of my hair.

So sadly I had to go to work my first day with new hair and it was a bad hair day. Isn’t that just the worst?  Sigh.

Work was work and blah blah blah then it was time to bust out of there and hit the gym. The group was a lot of fun and there were lots of laughs.  We started with strength and did reps of 3 back squats. I worked to 125 lbs and decided I was good there.

WOD

1 min

5 front squats

3 push press

Sprint

1 min

3 front squats

5 push press

Sit ups

We did 14 minutes of this one and it was killer!  It got heavy really quickly and I did 55 lbs.

I was spoiled by J again with a delicious barbecued dinner. We tried roasted radishes which I’ve never had.  We did them in a foil pack and they were ok but I think we should try the oven next time.

The rest of the night was spent doing laundry and watching the Men Tell All. I have to admit that I’m getting excited for Bachelor in Paradise. It’s a guilty pleasure I suppose. So. Much. Drama.

So here’s to Monday being behind us and let’s hope Tuesday’s hair turns out better for me. xoxo
