Hello Routine. It’s Good to Have You Back 

Oh I love long weekends so so much. But it makes it so much harder to go back to work.  It’s like the Sunday blues but stronger and deeper.

The weekend wrapped up with our trip home from the camper and a stop at our favourite ice cream place. I didn’t document it but found this picture on the interweb that shows its charm 

 When we got home I decided to tackle a mountain of laundry and got lots of that done. That includes cleaning out two drawers and putting aside some clothes I don’t wear anymore.  C is quite excited about going back to school so we got lots ready for her including her shower, painting her nails, braiding her hair, and packing her lunch and bag. 

I decided I had to do a workout of some sort because I was feeling stressed and it had been a relaxing couple of days. I set my timer on the”rounds” setting for 20 rounds of one minute.  I did a variety of exercises including abs and dumbbell arm stuff with every other interval being skipping.  We are in the middle of a heatwave and the skipping happened on the deck outside and it was steamy. 

Dinner was this delicious feast of steak, roasted beets on a salad and what might be some of the last sweet corn of the season.

Now we are back to the grind and back to routine which usually works in my favour. I work very well with routine in my life.  I hope the transition is smooth for all of us. xoxo

Long Weekend Living

its labour day weekend here in these parts and while we have to prepare ourselves to get back to the daily grind and our regularly scheduled lives we decided to make the most of what feels like our last summer weekend. 

Friday I snuck out of work early and my friend N and I got a lift from my amazing husband to the train station where we headed down to Toronto to the CNE. We stopped at a couple patios and enjoyed some drinks and delicious food and then we headed to the Zac Brown band concert. It was a beautiful night.

We had a lot of fun. The show was really good. It was a sold out crowd and everyone was singing along. We had so much fun.

The problem with the concert was that the train ride home was so annoying. It was so packed and we had to push our way on. It turns out there was a lot going on in the city that night. We got home late. 

The next morning N and I had agreed to meet at the gym. There was no class but there was an open gym so we could do our own thing. I made a few protein pancakes and ate those before I headed over.

We started with deadlifts and worked on heavy singles. We worked up to what was a new PR for me and I pulled 210lbs!! I was pretty excited about it. Then we did 10 minutes of sled pushes outside and it was so hot. We also did sprints in between. And I am not going to lie about it, it was pretty terrible and hot. Then we did about 3 rounds of pull-ups in different variations. And some push ups.  It was a killer workout but we were so glad we did it. 

Later that day I headed to my parents house to pick up C. After we got her we headed to the mall where I finally got the hoodie I wanted from Lululemon. It was sold out online but I found one at the mall that they put aside for me.  That night we went with friends of ours to Ribfest. It’s a yearly tradition and it didn’t disappoint. 

Sunday we got packed up in the morning and headed to Port Dover to J’s parents’ camper for the day and night.

We spent the day at the beach and then went for fish and chips for dinner. Then we played a round of mini golf. When we got home we went to his grandparents camper and had a bonfire. It was a really nice little getaway. 

Now all that’s left is to suck up the rest of the weekend. Let’s hope time slows and it’s a long wonderful day. Tomorrow it’s back to the real world.  xoxo

A Recap of Sorts

oh hi there!  I guess I took a bit of an unexpected hiatus from here. Oops. I guess life got in the way again. #rude 

So what has been going on with me?  Not much really. When I last left you I mentioned we were going to a Jays game. Well we did that and it was so.much.fun. We went with friends of ours and we ended up have the most amazing seats.

J and I are fans of the Jays every year. This year they are doing really well and the fan base has really grown (cough cough bandwagon) and so the games are MUCH busier than we are used to. It’s great but the lines are a lot longer and crowds aren’t my favourite. But I sucked it up and we had a blast.

We may have had a little too much fun which resulted in quite a headache later that evening. I managed to get through it and felt surprisingly ok the next day for work.  I made it in for my usual workouts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then took Thursday off because I had a very important appointment.

Thankfully most of the week is behind me and the weekend is upon me again. It’s a long weekend which is amazing and it’s what feels like the last weekend of Summer. We need to make it count. Before we know it there will be all the pumpkin things stuffed in our faces reminding us summer is over.   

Sorry friends but I couldn’t care less about pumpkin spice lattes. I don’t get what all the hype is about. 

Anyhoo lets enjoy the last weekend before school starts and we are back to our routine and the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler.

Slip and Flip: Long Weekend Fun 

Welp, here we are.  Another day and another weekend recap.  I have been a little MIA but man life got busy for me.  I talked here about how I was killing it with my nutrition during the week.  Well, it went downhill after that and I ate so bad during the weekend.  Lots of snacks, and lots of beer.

I have been great with my workouts, I went Thursday, Friday and Saturday to my regularly scheduled classes. Then no class Sunday which was fine because I had lots of prep for our party. We hosted a slip and flip party. I didn’t get any photos of it but this gives you the idea.  (Thank you Google)

We had lots of food for everyone.  We had burgers, hot dogs and sausage and of course corn.  I also made the best guacamole I have ever made which I plan to give a recipe for later in the week.  There was also a very good pasta salad I put together and coleslaw.  A few people brought some other things like dips and munchies.

For dessert I made a batch of brownies and also the most delicious cupcakes.   

These cupcakes were so good. Thankfully we have none left and I will probably never make them again because I can’t not eat them. They were sooooo good. 

The party didn’t go as late as we had anticipated which was kind of a good thing because it meant the next day I was able to be productive and still relax as well.  I even was able to get up early enough to make it to a class at the gym. We only had one class.  It was a team workout that had a ton of different movements including back squats, burpees, kettle bell swings, sprinting and the list goes on. 

The rest of the day was some party clean up and a lot of relaxing. It was really wonderful actually. I watched some of my shows and lounged and really took a break mentally from work which I needed. 

Now I am in countdown mode to my next vacation. Not too long and it’s going to be amazing!!  More on that later. xoxox

The Long Weekend Had Me Like…

I don’t know about you guys but I love a long weekend. It started off with a workout Friday after work. I know we did deadlifts for our strength, but the WOD I  having trouble remembering. I think it was pull ups and squats and push ups perhaps?  I can’t remember exactly.  

Saturday morning started off with a good workout that was a partner WOD. A friend who was off for awhile is back and was my partner. 

32 min AMRAP

P1- 4 shuttle runs

P2 – 16 burpees

       16 box step ups

       16 ground to overhead (55lbs)

       16 front squats (55lbs)

The round was timed by the shuttle run and then when we switched you just picked up where your partner left off. It was a killer workout and it was hot out. 

The rest of my day I was very productive. I got some shopping done, a mani and a pedi, a drink with a friend I haven’t seen in ages and a little bit of relaxing.

For dinner it was just J and I and he grilled some steaks and we had steak Caesar salads. I used the Bolthouse yogurt dressing and I recommend it for sure. It’s so yummy!

We spent the evening getting caught up on one of our favourite shows. J is under the weather and fighting a nasty cold so it was a low key night. 

Sunday I set my alarm to get up and go for a run before it got too hot out and before I had to get ready to leave pick up C and head to my parents.

I had a great day visiting my family and we stayed until the evening.    It was pretty great going to bed knowing we still had another day to enjoy of the weekend. 
It started with breakfast and a tea.

Then when those were done we did burpees. As a team we did 142 burpees. It was a crazy one that left me really sweaty. 

We did some errands during the day and then we cleaned up our porch and I am so happy with how it turned out.

We watched fireworks in the evening and we had a really great display.  It was the best weekend and I was really sad it had to come to an end. At least we have a short week to get though!  xoxox

A Happy Little Easter

Long weekends go way too fast.  Add in all the holiday stuff and family visits and it’s over just like that.  We had a lot of fun this weekend though, Easter was definitely good to us.  Saturday morning we went to the gym.  The workout was a partner workout and it was warm enough to get some running in.

*Basically one partner worked on the push press or lunges while the other did a parking lot sprint, then switch, then we did 20 sit ups together.

It felt great to get out and do some running.  I love these types of workouts where one runs while the other does another movement.  The run is a nice break from the lifting and vice versa.

After the gym we went to an Easter Egg hunt at a friends house for the afternoon.  Then we got our groceries in and went home to relax.  It felt like a long day and we both needed to chill out for awhile.  Saturday evening was a quiet one, we just hung out after a nice steak dinner with sweet potato fries.

She was very patient and let me sleep until 8am.  We got up and she did her egg hunt and then I made pancakes for C and J that I attempted to shape like bunnies.  They turned out… ok I guess.  Not the best, but for someone who is not really very crafty I think it was a good attempt.  I made myself an egg over sweet potato fries and some turkey bacon.

C went to her Grandma’s for the day and the night and we went to a lunch at J’s parent’s house.  It was a nice family visit and the meal was so good, there was ham, lamb, hashbrown casserole, corn, and all the fixings.  I ate WAY too much and felt so full after.  I helped with chores and milking and got to go visit this little cutie.

When we got home I got our dinner together.  I had made the base of a Shepherd’s pie on Saturday evening so we topped it with cheese and Tator Tots and got this deliciousness.

It was soooooo yummy.  I definitely recommend doing this.  C wasn’t home to enjoy it but we have lots left and she can try it tonight.  I think she is really going to like it.  I know I can’t wait to have another serving tonight.  I was going to bring some for lunch but was healthy and packed a steak salad.

Taking It All In

Welp the last day of Summer has come and gone. We tried to make the most of it and squeeze in some fun in the sun. The day started with a nice lazy morning. I slept in, we went for a drive for a tea and breakie to bring to J.  I made mine at home.

Then I did a mountain of laundry so I could feel prepared for the busy week ahead. After a lot of laundry and relaxing with my tea in between folding it all, I then decided it was time to get moving and I wanted to get my workout in. J had a break from work so I started my workout with my cardio and did some HIIT sprinting for about 20 minutes. It was a nice run and I felt really good.

I got home and then set up for a back and abs workout from my coach.  It was my second time doing this one and it went a little smoother because I am more familiar with the moves and what comes when.  I was a hot mess when I was done but it felt great.  We made some lunch and got cleaned up and headed to our friends pool for a swim.  It was a really nice day out and was pretty hot.  It was nice to just kind of chill and relax around the pool.  We stayed for a couple of hours and then came home to get stuff organized for back to school.

Lunches are all packed.  Meals are prepped.  Laundry is done and folded.  C is tucked in with her hair in braids so she could have waves for the first day.  Her uniform is out and set out for the day tomorrow.  We are ready to tackle the first day with a vengeance.  We are hoping to have a good breakfast and not feel rushed on the first day.

After she was all tucked in J and I got to work and tackled another big project.  We stuffed all the invitations into envelopes and just need to get them addressed and then they are ready to go.  We formed an assembly line and it didn’t take as long as I thought it would.

We are really making some serious progress.  I am glad J is so good at encouraging me to just go and do it.  I was saying, oh well we will have to stuff them one night, stamp them another etc, and he said, nope, let’s just do them right now.  And within an hour they are done and ready to get addressed and mailed out.  I should have them in the mail after tomorrow.  It’s nice that we are doing it together too because we just sat and hung out and got it done.  I am a lucky girl.

And that’s it for Labour day and the long weekend… just like that.  I think we really did our best to take in every last moment of it and enjoy the weekend.  I feel well rested and organized and ready to start September.
