That’s Gonna Hurt

After recovering from such a busy weekend I was ready to get back into a routine. Tuesday I had good intentions of getting up early and doing a little workout but I chose sleep instead. I then planned to do a workout when I got home but I ended up working really late then I was rushed to get C and get her home and fed and ready for Guides. When I finally had the time to workout I was tired.

So the rest won out. Then came Wednesday. No workout in the morning because I had an event to attend which meant I had to get up earlier than usual. I knew I was planning to go to the gym after work too. 

I didn’t get out of work on time so I had to bring C with me and go to a later class. I was thrilled when I got there that some of my friends did the same thing. It makes it so much more fun. We started with our September challenge which was 75 seconds of clean and press. My last time trying it I repped off 11 at 65 lbs. I was feeling strong today as I warmed up so I decided to increase and do 75 lbs. I managed to get 11 again so that felt pretty awesome. I was so wiped after though my legs were shaky. Then came the workout.

Ouch!  To top it off we were given the heavy sled to push and at one point I honestly thought I might throw up. It was killer. 

Since we worked so hard my friend and I decided we deserved shwarma for dinner and we went out together (with C). Sadly J was working late but we did drop him off some dinner too. 

As I ran up the stairs from doing laundry I immediately knew my legs were going to be sore tomorrow. I could tell already it was going to be one of those days.

Long Weekend Living

its labour day weekend here in these parts and while we have to prepare ourselves to get back to the daily grind and our regularly scheduled lives we decided to make the most of what feels like our last summer weekend. 

Friday I snuck out of work early and my friend N and I got a lift from my amazing husband to the train station where we headed down to Toronto to the CNE. We stopped at a couple patios and enjoyed some drinks and delicious food and then we headed to the Zac Brown band concert. It was a beautiful night.

We had a lot of fun. The show was really good. It was a sold out crowd and everyone was singing along. We had so much fun.

The problem with the concert was that the train ride home was so annoying. It was so packed and we had to push our way on. It turns out there was a lot going on in the city that night. We got home late. 

The next morning N and I had agreed to meet at the gym. There was no class but there was an open gym so we could do our own thing. I made a few protein pancakes and ate those before I headed over.

We started with deadlifts and worked on heavy singles. We worked up to what was a new PR for me and I pulled 210lbs!! I was pretty excited about it. Then we did 10 minutes of sled pushes outside and it was so hot. We also did sprints in between. And I am not going to lie about it, it was pretty terrible and hot. Then we did about 3 rounds of pull-ups in different variations. And some push ups.  It was a killer workout but we were so glad we did it. 

Later that day I headed to my parents house to pick up C. After we got her we headed to the mall where I finally got the hoodie I wanted from Lululemon. It was sold out online but I found one at the mall that they put aside for me.  That night we went with friends of ours to Ribfest. It’s a yearly tradition and it didn’t disappoint. 

Sunday we got packed up in the morning and headed to Port Dover to J’s parents’ camper for the day and night.

We spent the day at the beach and then went for fish and chips for dinner. Then we played a round of mini golf. When we got home we went to his grandparents camper and had a bonfire. It was a really nice little getaway. 

Now all that’s left is to suck up the rest of the weekend. Let’s hope time slows and it’s a long wonderful day. Tomorrow it’s back to the real world.  xoxo

Prowler’s and Pitching In 

This has been a great weekend. Despite the fact that I had a short week at work it sure seemed to take forever. Thursday I hit the evening class at the gym and it was one of those workouts where it doesn’t sound like much and then it totally kicks your butt. The strength was back squats and I wasn’t feeling super strong.

We did 3 rounds of this and then rested for 45 s and then did another 3. It wasn’t very fun. When I got home J was making dinner and had grilled up an amazing meal for us.

Friday there were no classes so I decided to go for a run. When I got home I was getting changed and I made the mistake of laying down and this happened.

I did finally get up (after a short snooze) and I got ready to run. I wasn’t really feeling it but I knew I should just go and get out since it was a beautiful evening.

It wasn’t a great run. My legs were heavy and I took a lot of walking breaks. But the thing is I went and that’s got to mean something. I could have just stayed in bed. 

Saturday morning I hit up the gym and our coach told us we were doing the beep test (sprints). He was met with a reluctant response so he decided to scratch that and put together a different workout. It. Was. Killer. 

In teams we did:

Prowler push

Heavy deadlifts 

10 push press/ box steps with high knees 

Basically as a team we rotated based on the timing of the prowler push. I used 145 lbs for my deadlifts and got about 2-3 off the ground per round. We used 15 lbs for our presses and they were mostly strict presses. The workout went for about 22 minutes. After we finished a friend and I decided to go enjoy a drink at Starbucks before heading home. 

The farm was short staffed for the weekend so I got to pitch in and I helped sell at the stand. It was a beautiful weekend and it was nice be outside. I actually had a lot of fun. C helped for a couple hours as well until she went to a sleepover at a friends.

Both J and I were so tired after our busy day that we didn’t do anything during the evening. We got take out and enjoyed a quiet night in.  It was a pretty great start to the weekend.

Primping, Pizza and Prowler Pushes

Another recap post because it’s been a few days. Where do I begin?  Let’s start with Thursday. I did go to the gym Thursday evening and we did some partner stuff. The first wod was sit ups while the partner holds a medicine ball out straight in front of them. It was tough!  We did 10 rounds of a minute and after the first my arms were feeling it. It reminded me of a stag and doe game where you hold out a case of beer. #practise 

The wod had us running 200 m and then the partner worked on an AMRAP of 7 push ups, 7 lunges each side and 7 burpees.  It was killer especially since it’s been so hot out. Then we finished by doing some lifting and I worked on this months push press challenge. Last time I did it I pressed 7 reps at 75 lbs. Thursday I killed that score and increased to 12 reps at 80 lbs!  Not bad eh?? 

Friday I wasn’t able to go to the gym because I had a hair appointment. I had been looking forward to it allllll week and was so upset when I got there and the stylist had left. There was a mix up with my appointment and it got cancelled without them even calling me. I was furious actually and headed home. It was a newer place I had only been to once and I won’t be going back. Instead I was able to go with J and get C from camp and we went out for dinner. 

Saturday morning I went to the gym and had an awesome workout. It was the deck of cards workout where depending on the suit and number we did either burpees, thrusters, sit ups or push ups. There were also lunges and squats in there as well. 

After the gym I got cleaned up and headed to a new salon where I was lucky to get an appointment in short notice. It was a beautiful place and I really liked both the girl who did my colour and the girl who cut my hair. I have been hating my hair lately and the ends were so dead I finally chopped it and cleaned it up and I think I really like it.

The real test will be styling it myself. I also rocked a romper for the first time ever. I found one that wasn’t as short as most of the others I have seen out there and it was actually super comfy.   

The afternoon I popped in to help at the corn stand. It’s the first weekend for sweet corn and it got really busy so C and I went over to help for a bit. It was sooooo hot out!  For dinner we ordered pizza and J’s mom joined us and then we went out for ice cream which was a delicious treat. 

Sunday morning C went to spend the day with her Aunt and uncle and cousin at the beach. I headed to the gym and did some deadlifting and then joined in for the second half of the boot camp class where we did prowler pushing, sledge hammer hits, sit ups and box steps. It felt good except it was so hot out. The prowler pushed after deadlifting equals sore legs. 

J and did some groceries and then we went to visit a friend and had a dip in their pool.ni made dinner which was delicious homemade shepherds pie. 

It’s been such a good weekend I am feeling the Sunday evening blues thinking about it ending and going back to work tomorrow. Why can’t it be a long weekend?  Maybe I just need a vacation. Sigh.

Prowlers and Prep

Thursday was like my Friday because I am a lucky girl to have today off! I had an unscheduled workout last night as a result of last minute cancelled plans. I headed to CrossFit and got to spend time with the Thursday crew. We started with strength and did heavy push press. We worked to a max and then did 3 more at the same weight. I did 85 lbs for my three.

The goal was to keep working until you have done 100 tire step ups and 100 dumbbell thrusters as a team.

We then did a group ab session to help me prep for the dress. It’s fun that we do that together as a team. What a great group of supporters.

I got home and had a little bit more meal prep to do for my road trip today. J is amazing and grilled up a whole bunch of asparagus for me.

Today we are all packed up and heading to Montreal for the weekend to do the Tough Mudder tomorrow. I was so diligent in my meal prep that I packed up this cooler with all my breakfasts, snacks and lunches.
